As the world sits up and take notice of the scandal currently engulfing Hollywood, female celebrities are beginning to get their experiences of sexual assault and harassment taken seriously. And as more stars step forward with their claims of rape, assault and degrading comments from Hollywood executives, Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts has unearthed old footage of Emma Bunton being subjected to “disgusting” and intimate questions from Howard Stern. The ‘shock jock’ DJ, who is the world’s highest paid radio host with an annual salary of $90million, brought Spice Girl Emma onto his show in 2005 and peppered their chat with insinuations about her sexual history and deeply personal questions. In the throwback video, Howard demands to know whether Emma was still a virgin at 18 when she joined the hit 1990s band.
Howard Stern asked Emma a load of personal questions about her sex life
“Yes!” she protests, while Howard’s producer plays pornographic audio of a woman screaming in the studio. “Are you lying?” he presses, as Emma laughingly admits that she wasn’t telling the truth. “You’ve got a hot little body, I can’t imagine that… you know. I can see you, like, girl-on-girl action, I could see you with two guys. I could see you doing a lot of stuff,” he says. The singer gasps as Howard continues: “Milkman’s daughter, 14 years old.” His producer interjects: “If your father’s a milkman, you have to put out.” “Stop that now!” she tells them both. “If my dad hears that he won’t be happy. He won’t be happy that you’re talking to me like this.”
Emma looked uncomfortable at the turn in the conversation
“Ah, he loves it,” the DJ continues, creepily. “I bet when you were young you started in with boys, right? You were very developed. What age did you develop? 14?” The conversation takes an even stranger turn when Stern grills Emma on her menstrual cycle. “When did you get your period? How old were you? That’s what everyone talks about.” “I don’t care, I’m not talking to you about that,” she tells him. “Absolutely not.”
Stern’s producer also joined in the creepy conversation
“I feel like you didn’t wear a bra just for me today. And I feel like you’re not wearing panties today. I get that vibe,” he continues, despite his interviewee’s obvious discomfort. “I am!” she protests. “What kind of panties – like a thong? Let’s see them,” he demands. “What’s wrong with it? I’m digging it. I’m liking about your panties and no bra, it’s turning me on a little bit.” He carries on: “You like showing your body off, I see these pictures. You’re wearing sexy little outfits, you’re practically naked in some of them.” “Because the older you get, I’ve become more confident I think,” she tells him, trying to wrestle back some control over the situation.
Emma refused to talk about her first period
“So don’t act like you don’t like this, you’re all about this. You want attention through your body. You want it. You’re asking for it, you’re gonna get it,” Stern adds. “Because Robin [Quivers, Howard’s co-host]’s not here today so I can do you.” Girls Aloud star Nicola retweeted the vintage clip to her followers, telling them: “This old tape is disgusting. Poor Emma. “Don’t let anyone ever subject you like this, you’re well within your rights to tell him to GFH :),” she added.
Howard also interviewed Harvey Weinstein in 2014
Howard Stern has welcomed hundreds of famous guests onto his show over the years, including the disgraced Harvey Weinstein , who has fled to Europe in the wake of his sexual assault scandal to seek treatment for a sex addiction. The movie mogul was interviewed by Stern in 2014 and told him at the time that he didn’t believe in the seedy ‘casting couch’ scenario stereotype. “Why not stay single? I gotta figure every starlet in Hollywood wanted to at least blow you, you know what I’m saying? Stern asked him. “Howard, as you know only too well, it doesn’t work that way,” Weinstein tells him. “I’ll tell you who it works that way for: it works that way for the actors.”
